The cast has been announced for the world premiere of Vietnamese verbatim film Looking For You | Tìm Hiểu. This exciting bilingual film explores the nuances of the relationship between mother and daughter through the Vietnamese lens. The cast comprises stage and screen, actor and writer Tuyen Do (Summer Rolls, HOME; Hear Me Now: Audition Monologues For Actors of Colour and East Side Voices, Methuen Drama), Molly Harris (Doctor Who, BBC; Arcane, Netflix), Jan Le (DI Ray, ITV; The Capture; BBC) and Offie nominated actress Anna Nguyen (Summer Rolls; HOME, Decolonisation, Not just buzzword; SOAS University of London).
Looking For You| Tìm Hiểu is a perceptive and bilingual retelling of intimate family stories in Vietnamese culture. Exploring family relationships and uncovering emotions, the screenings will be hosted all over the globe, in the UK (London and Manchester), Vietnam and Australia. Anna Nguyen (Sonic Pho, Signal Fires, Summer Rolls) and Kristine Landon Smith (Viswamitri Villas, Decolonisation: not just a buzzword, Emerge) will collaborate with Vietnamese researchers across each of the four locations, to lay the foundations for this fascinating and insightful film.
This poignant film weaves a rich tapestry of intergenerational stories through unfiltered conversations. Set in a cinematic metaphorical setting of “home”, the film evokes this sacred space where the discussion ranges from survival, shame, sacrifice, and the language of love: food.
The film invites the audience to engage with these stories through the unique technique of headphone verbatim which gathers testimonies from living people. Each screening location will include a live discussion with all cast and creatives to unravel and leave room for discussion around this special and personal film.
