EA Festival embarks on an exciting new long-term partnership with the renowned Hastings International Piano. The 2018 winner of Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition will perform this August at the inaugural EA Festival. Then, in future years, the First Prize winner of the biennial competition will perform in the summer of their win framed by the incredible surroundings of Hedingham Castle.
At the 14th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, Roman Kosyakov won the prestigious First Prize as well as the Royal Philharmonic Prize. The young pianist made his stage debut at the age of 12 and was recently invited to perform with the English Symphonic Orchestra. Kosyakov will give an intimate recital on Saturday 31st July, performing Bach’s Partita No. 1, Beethoven’s Sonata op. 10 No. 3 and Schumann’s Kreisleriana op. 16.
This is not the only music connection with the festival. As part of the talks programme, Grammy Award-winning percussionist Evelyn Glennie and Steinway pianist and contemporary classical composer Rosey Chan will discuss their careers and why listening remains at the centre of their music. A tripleheader concert will also see world-famous table player Talvin Singh, experimental percussionist Nik Void and astonishing pop vocalist TAIWIAH perform.
EA Festival seeks to invigorate the cultural scene in East Anglia by presenting exciting regional creatives alongside exceptional speakers and artists from the rest of the UK and beyond in the richly historic setting of Hedingham Castle. Located in the heart of East Anglia, and now over 900-years old, Hedingham Castle is the best-preserved Norman keep in the United Kingdom. All festival events, which include a series of talks and performances, will take place in the enclosed, permanent, all-weather marquee attached to the mansion, approximately 300m from the Keep.
