Sally’s Spooky Holiday sets sail into Swanage this Summer!

Beloved children’s theatre creators and husband and wife team, Martin Parsons and Kate Ashmead are bringing their brand-new children’s show Sally’s Spooky Holiday to The Mowlem Theatre this August. With the summer holidays just around the corner, their Swanage-based local professional theatre company, Honalee Media, are delighted to debut Sally’s Spooky Holiday for children in the area and holidaymakers alike.

For the first three Mondays in August, audiences are invited to Sally’s Spooky Holiday to join in this spooky, musical adventure and help Crafty the Crow and Sally the Scarecrow solve the mystery of the ghostly goings on, hunt for the hidden treasure and find out why Pirate Harry is making things go bump in the night! After each performance, audiences are invited to come and meet the cast afterwards, and each child will receive a gift from puppet star, Crafty the Crow.

The music for Sally’s Spooky Holiday has been written by acclaimed children’s composer Barrie Bignold (Justin’s House, CBeebies; Gigglebiz, CBeebies; The Sooty Show, BBC) and will include children’s favourites such as: Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, The Hokey Cokey, Hickory Dickory Dock, I Hear Thunder, Row, Row, Row Your Boat and more!

Ashmead and Parsons made the move to Swanage just over a year ago and are delighted to be bringing their speciality, children’s theatre, to their new home turf. Their joint company Honalee Media have a track record in top-quality children’s entertainment, including numerous sell-out ‘Santa Shows’ which they have toured over the past few years, including Santa Saves Christmas which previously played at The Mowlem Theatre in 2022. A return visit is booked this December with their next adventure, Santa’s Christmas Wish!

Likewise, their Marty MacDonald’s Farm series of stories, featuring the voice of CBeebies’ Justin Fletcher as one of the farm’s puppets, Pongo the Pig, has been a huge hit, having toured nationally for ten years.

Co-producer Kate Ashmead is delighted to be bringing Sally’s Spooky Holiday to The Mowlem, having first performed at the theatre in 1994 as part of an original ‘Swanage Rep Season’ – an experience which founded both her love of Swanage and boosted her professional career. Kate is committed to sharing the joy of live theatre in her local community, particularly with a young audience.

Writer Martin Parsons comments, This is an interactive musical adventure for all the family, emphasising spooky fun rather than proper scares. Sally’s holiday may have mystery, but it’s more funny than scary! And for those children who love a swashbuckling story, keeping an eye on naughty old Pirate Harry will make sure they aren’t disappointed…
